Do you need to watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to understand 3? ›

As the concluding film of a trilogy, it goes without saying that both 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are required viewing before settling into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Obviously it's visually stunning, it's action-packed, it's pretty funny and has some of the best song choices in any movie and it has a great heart. But above all else, as Groot's actor would put it, it's a movie that's all about family. The Guardians are a group of misfits who come together to form a family.

The second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series—though released three years later—reportedly takes place just a few months after the events of the first Guardians film.

We also love seeing Nebula take her first real steps towards becoming a hero. In fact, we love all the Guardians, including Mary Poppins, y'all. But if we're looking to trim some time from a lengthy rewatch schedule we can leave out the second Guardians film, even if it's still really good.

Of course you'll need to watch the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the Christmas Special, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder, but that's still about all you need to worry about for this movie.

The movie feels like a very entertaining roller coaster, it was a joy and all the crowd were very pleased. In the end, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Is a MUST-SEE for fans of the first one and a VERY ENJOYABLE ride for everyone else. It's simply one of these movies that are always fun to watch.

I'd say that the first movie has the better writing and balance between seriousness and humor, but the second movie has the better villain and more memorable action scenes. Both do well in the visuals and emotion department. So it's a tough pick for me.
